WAKING UP FROM HIBERNATION
Birds are chirping, squirrels are frolicking through the yards, the bears have been spotted, and the forecast for tomorrow shows three inches of snow…all signs that spring in Tahoe has arrived. I certainly couldn’t be happier (minus the looming snow). Even though it was a mild winter, my soul yearns for warmth and sunlight and long days.
In honor of all those joyous feelings, I whipped up this illustration in which I like to call “Bear Spa”. There is a bear behavior enthusiast around here that has trail cams so he can track bear behavior and how they have adapted to being pushed out of their natural habitats by humans and the building of homes. He posted this photo on his instagram at some point last summer and it just made me smile. I knew I had to illustrate my own version.
I’m still playing with my brushes and colors in Procreate on my iPad. I’ve gone through so many favorite brush phases, mostly purchasing from artists who’s styles I’m inspired by. In a previous post (the curiosity of squirrels) I talked about being enamored with Meggie Johnson’s work and I’m still loving working with the digital brushes she uses. The best thing about it is they are almost all Procreate brushes that come with the app! I think I’ll keep working in this style and continue to play with texture and color.
Are you also a digital artist using Procreate or Adobe Fresco? I’d love to hear what brushes are your favorites in the comment section below!
